Ceasar Mitchell Receives IATSE Endorsement for Mayor

Atlanta, GA (September 15, 2017)—The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), Local 927, formally endorsed Ceasar Mitchell for Mayor of Atlanta. IATSE endorsed Mr. Mitchell because of his record supporting fair wages for working families and his belief in expanding job growth in the arts and entertainment industries. The labor union represents over 130,000 technicians, artisans and crafts-persons in the entertainment industry.

Neil Gluckman, Business Representative of IATSE Local 927, said, “We’re supporting City Council President Ceasar Mitchell for mayor because he’s the best choice for Atlanta and working families. After fully vetting all candidates for mayor, we truly believe Ceasar Mitchell understands the importance the ARTS and Film/Entertainment for the city.  He’s our choice to win!”

Atlanta is becoming the premier location for movie, television, and theatrical productions. Mitchell wants union workers to compete for better jobs when productions film in Atlanta, particularly large scale projects with competitive pay. The mayoral candidate also expressed his commitment to education and job training for Atlanta’s youth interested in related careers. Over the past decade, the film and TV workers unions in Georgia have seen membership increase by more than 1,000%.

“I stand with all working families in Atlanta and will ensure that the brothers and sisters of IATSE are given a fair shot to compete for good paying jobs,” Mitchell said. “When I’m mayor, I will put policies in place to incent producers to hire local, instead of sourcing workers from other markets.”

To date, Mitchell has received endorsements from several of Atlanta’s largest labor unions including the Professional Association of City Employees (PACE), The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW).
